Our Beginning..........................

The call came one early spring morning.  While hiking a mountain trail, a naturalist came upon an abandoned domestic rabbit desperately dragging herself through the woods.  With only one eye remaining, she would soon fall helpless to a predator.  Instinctively, the hiker gathered the cripple and rushed to the nearest animal clinic.  Her ears were caked with ear mites and her hind legs were completely paralyzed.  She was also pregnant.

Word swiftly spread through the rescue community and the rabbit, now named Joella, was settled in a home.  Sadly, it became clear that a painful decision lay ahead.  In return for the love she received in her final days, Joella bestowed a legacy of dignity and trust.

This was only the beginning.  A small group of dedicated rabbit rescuers had answered the call.  They learned that the same mountainside was a known dumping site for rabbits.  Joella had not been alone.

After many hours of patient reconnaissance and commando-style crawling through the brush, the remaining rabbits were brought in.  Facing overburdened shelters and foster homes, the only answer was to offer heart and home and a 'Safe Haven ' for abandoned rabbits.

Our Salute!
