Cal

Rescue Date: 4/26/2007
Suffering from severe dental disease and neglect, Cal
has been on a long journey back to health. Upon rescue,
Cal’s health problems included a chest of matted fur
from drooling saliva which burned his skin, molar spurs
so sharp they sliced his tongue, malnutrition from being
unable to eat as well as multiple bacterial infections.
Today, after many vet visits, multiple molar trims,
tests, cultures and antibiotics, Cal is able to eat
greens and pellets on his own, although the permanently
scarred tongue does not allow him to eat hay. He
is a happy, lively little guy who, thankfully, has a
tremendous will to live...and we feel blessed to know
and to be able to help him. Cal will need to
remain on antibiotics long term to keep his jaw abscess
under control and his veterinary care will need to be
on-going. If you would like to help us
support Cal, please do sponsor him!

Lacey

Rescue Date: 7/20/2006
This little lady was found
abandoned in a parking lot of an industrial office
complex. We wonder how some people can be so cruel - to
leave an animal in such a dangerous place in the
summertime heat! But thankfully, there are also very
kind people in this world. A gentle man found her and
took her in until he could find a safe place to give her
proper care.
We knew Lacey was very young when she was found, but in
seeing how much she has grown since rescue, she must
have been much younger than we thought! Now weighing 5.7
lbs., she was only 3.5 lbs. when rescued. Sadly Lacey
has never recovered mentally from the trauma of her
abandonment. We do not know all she went through, but
she expresses that trauma to this day with fear
aggression which we are slowly beginning to overcome.
Lacey especially likes to hear of people who care about
her; for often it is the kindness of strangers that
helps renew one’s faith and cheer you the most. So, if
you would like to be her soul mate, she would most
welcome the knowledge that she is loved.

Penny

Rescue Date: 1/22/2002
Penny
and her sister were born into a family who did not
understand rabbits. Kept all together in
a small cage without much care they soon heard the
owners say that they could no
longer stay. How sad for Penny, just five
months old, unloved and unwanted.
Taken into Safe Haven Rabbit Rescue, both girls soon
blossomed into happy, healthy bunnies. Able to run and
play, Penny was very happy, but somewhat shy and afraid
of people. Who could blame her? Silly Penny
would run and hide when visitors came to see her. She
boxed at any boy bunnies that came to court her. So,
dear Penny did not get adopted. But, actually, now we
think it was a game she was playing! Or maybe she knew
that as she matured she would develop health problems.
Penny has a condition known as “bladder sludge”
which requires extra visits to the vet for x-rays every
six months and her receiving subcutaneous fluids three
times a week. Your sponsorship will help support
that treatment and let Penny know you love her too!

LiAnne

Rescue Date: 4/22/2005
We always knew there must
have been a reason why LiAnne came to us and seemed to
decide to stay a while. In
foster care since April 2005, LiAnne was always the
picture of health - no health issues or problems - until
March 2007 when she suddenly became very ill.
Blood tests revealed a high e.cuniculi titer.
We are happy to report that
currently LiAnne is doing very well. The clinical
symptoms of the disease have disappeared and she
currently is symptom free.
We expect LiAnne to live a
long and happy life and we would love to see her in
either a "one bunny" home or bonded to another EC
positive rabbit. Until her very special comes
along, LiAnne would love to be your very special
sponsored little girl!
